St. Patrick's Day
Image
St. Patrick was a man who's real name was Maewyn Succat. He's known to be a patron saint of Ireland even though he wasn't born Irish. He was a fifth century Romano/British missionary and bishop in Ireland. He converted Irish people into Christians.
The purpose of St. Patricks day is to commemorate the death of Maewyn Succat who died on March 17. This day is to preserve his memory and celebrate him and what he did.
St.Patrick's day is on March 17 because that is the day that Saint Patrick died.
People use green on this day because it is said that he would wear green. Another reason why is because he would use the 3 leaf clover that was green to symbolize the Holy Trinity. From that day on they used green in Ireland.
One interesting thing that I found out is that if you would like to participate in celebrating this holiday then you could either eat green food or wear green clothing. I'm doing both.
