Homecoming
A school homecoming is a dance after a football game where couples and friends hang out to have fun. Usually there is a homecoming king and queen that are crowned that day.
History: This all started in a game of 1870. There were three people who were on a tie to making the first homecoming: Baylor, Illinois and Missouri but it wasn’t made into 1910. These homecomings had similar concepts and events like a football game, rallies, parades, speeches and school dances. The purpose of it all was to gather the students up and build school pride in them. It had become widely popular and by the 1920’s there was homecoming in all the U.S. as it was known for tradition.
Why celebrate?: In school we celebrate homecoming to unite the students so that they can make stronger friendships and gain school pride.
What is their?: In a homecoming there usually is a football game, a school dance, and spirit week. Some other school do speeches, parades, or rallies but they alway involve a football game.
Why is it called the homecoming game?: The reason that it’s called a homecoming game is because it’s the first time where the football players play at their school against their rivals.
