Emergency Medical Technician
An emt is a medical professional who are first responders in case of an emergency.
Duties and responsibilities:
- They are contact when there is an emergency.
- They have to work with other emergency personnel.
- They must be able to stabilize and transport patients to the hospital.
- They must be able to search for the most convenient hospital for the patient.
- They must be able to make life or death decisions.
- They must be able to work under pressured.
- Most importantly they must be prepared for the worst because not all patients make it .
Salary: they get paid 31,020 on average since 2012.
Education:
- You must have a high school diploma or a GED and formal emergency training.
- There are three levels in EMT training, you must pass all three of these levels.
- level#1 is called the EMT basic and in order to complete it you must pass the state written exam and the practical exam.
- Level #2 is the EMT intermediate stage which includes 30 to 350 training hours.
- Last but not least level #3 the highest paramedic, usually taken at a community college, in anatomy and physiology course.
- Sometimes you can get your associate degree because of your training and the completion of the a program.
- You must also take the NREMT to become an official or licensed EMT.
Demand or need for this profession : this job has grown 23% since 2012.
Reflection: I wouldn’t want to be an EMT because it doesn’t really interest me. It may be suitable for people that are calm but i tend to stress too much over anything. I couldn’t imagine myself in a chaotic environment like this one. I wouldn’t like losing a patient that would be too much for me to bare.
